Workshop of economic journalism

The Workshop on Economic Journalism is an interactive initiative jointly developed by the Faculty of Political Sciences and the weekly magazine Vreme. The goal of the project is to open up new career perspectives for aspiring young journalists by equipping them with specialized knowledge in the fields of economics and finance. Through real-world training and direct collaboration with industry experts, the project promotes accurate, insightful reporting on topics that shape economic policy and public understanding.

Challenges

Before the project launch, students had limited exposure to practical economic reporting. Traditional academic frameworks often lacked up-to-date, applied tools for interpreting complex financial data or understanding macroeconomic trends. The challenge was not only to build journalistic competence in economics but also to create a learning environment where students could directly interact with leading media and business professionals.

Technologies

The project website, built using WordPress and Elementor, provides an accessible and modern platform to showcase updates, speaker details, and participant work. On the frontend, React and Framer Motion were used to deliver a dynamic, responsive user experience. React Router enables smooth in-app navigation, while MobX ensures efficient state management. Cloudflare handles security and CDN distribution, improving site performance and reliability. Segment supports data-driven optimization by tracking user interaction across the site.

The Results

The workshop significantly expanded student competencies in economic journalism. Participants gained both theoretical insights and hands-on experience through mentorship from renowned editors, analysts, and company representatives. By publishing their work and receiving feedback, students were able to develop a professional journalistic voice with a strong focus on accuracy and depth. The platform now serves as both an educational tool and a showcase of student achievements, inspiring future cohorts to explore the intersection of media and economics.
