White church of Karan

Bela Crkva Karanska, in the village of Karan near Uzice, dedicated to the Blagovesti, was built in the fourth decade of the 14th century and later decorated with frescoes by the lord Petar Brajan, the ruler of King Dusan, with his family. Several other donors joined him in this effort, but there are no other details about them or about Brajan and his family in this church.

Challenges

The main challenge was creating a bilingual website that offers seamless language switching and ensures that content in both Serbian and English is easily accessible and well-structured. The client required a site that could handle complex historical narratives, detailed descriptions, and numerous images without compromising usability or page load speed. Additionally, the administrative team needed a user-friendly backend allowing them to regularly update content, add news, and manage multimedia without technical difficulties.

Technologies

The website is built on WordPress, leveraging the flexibility and robustness of the CMS to handle a content-rich and multilingual site. The Elementor page builder was used extensively to design responsive and visually engaging pages with intuitive drag-and-drop editing, making it easy for non-technical users to maintain and expand the site.

For multilingual functionality, Polylang was integrated, providing smooth switching between Serbian and English while allowing content managers to efficiently create and manage translations.

The site runs on a LiteSpeed web server optimized for speed and reliability. Interactive elements and smooth user experience are supported by JavaScript libraries such as jQuery, Swiper for responsive sliders, and core-js for compatibility and polyfills. The lightweight Hello Elementor theme ensures fast loading times and full compatibility with Elementor’s features.

This combination of technologies delivers a performant, easy-to-manage, and user-friendly digital platform that honors the historical importance of Bela crkva while meeting modern web standards.

The results

The website successfully delivers a bilingual, accessible platform that effectively showcases the rich history and cultural value of Bela crkva Karanska. Content managers have full control over multilingual content with ease of updates thanks to Elementor and Polylang integration. Visitors experience fast loading pages, clear navigation, and responsive design across devices.

The site has improved public engagement and awareness of this important cultural monument, making historical information and multimedia resources widely available both locally and internationally. Overall, the project strengthened the digital presence of the monument while respecting its heritage through modern web technologies.
